The year that we knew as 2012 is coming to a close. Tomorrow many will be forgetting about the worries of the year and lose themselves in end of the year celebrating and subsequent recovery. But, time does not stop for no man. The next day will dawn as well as the troubles of the previous. For many on Long Island there is a mix of both good tidings and loss. With Hurricane Sandy, many people have suffered incredlble loss that they have not had to face before. However, there are good things to celebrate also.
The restaurants, businesses, hospitals, and other damaged areas of Long Island are starting to see some economic chairty to help rebuild. A recent jobs report has given hope to many who are still looking for work. As well, several organizations around the country are lining up to help with rebuilding homes, cleaning up debris, handing out food and clothes and anything else that may be needed.
The one constant that will be needed in the new year, besides all of the above mentioned, is going to be steady work. With over 70,000 jobs on the New York State Jobs Express there is a lot of opportunity to Long Island workers to find work. So, what happens in the meantime?
One thing that prospective workers can do in 2013 is to stay in the hunt. As you take time off you lose ground on some of the jobs that you may be more qualified for. Keep your nose to the grindstone so to speak and continue to put your name in everywhere and anywhere.
Another tip for finding work in the new year is to keep a current resume with you at all times. Even if you are going to the local diner, you never know when you may find a lead, hear about an opening, or meet someone.
Lastly, if you learn new skills through night classes, or community colleges, you can broaden your prospective jobs through new qualifications.
Make 2013 a great year by landing that dream job that will not only help you through current crisis, but also lead to more opportunities in the future.
