Right before the Christmas holiday, as people are wondering where they will find the money needed for the extra gifts under the tree, State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos releases a statement about the recent jobs report. And it sounds like New York, and Long Island, are going in the right direction. At least, as far as adding new jobs is concerned.
Senate Majority Leader Skelos said, "The unemployment data released today proves that our efforts to make New York more economically competitive are working. According to the state Labor Department, New York added 83,500 new private sector jobs this year and the state’s unemployment rate dropped in November.”
This is great news especially for those who have been displaced because of Hurricane Sandy and the subsequent damage from the megastorm.
Skelos went on to say in his statement, “Over the past two years, the Senate partnered with Governor Cuomo to reduce business taxes, put the brakes on rising property taxes and provide strategic economic investments across our state to encourage job creation and business growth.”
“In the coming session, I look forward to working with Governor Cuomo and my colleagues in the Senate and the Assembly to redouble our efforts to make New York State more competitive and create more jobs.”
The general concensus is that the New York Job Express is helping to line up both employers and workers across the state. As the website continues to evolve and jobs are promoted, the hope is that more and more Long Island residents can get back to work.
