One of the greatest showing of human perseverance is going on in Long Island after Superstorm Sandy came and went. Thousands of people went without power for weeks, without food for their families, and without shelter as their homes were completely destroyed or need extensive repairs they are unlivable. But, that doesn't mean that there is a loss of hope. This goes for those around Long Island, New York, and the country who graciously give to Hurricane Sandy Long Island Disaster Relief.
This fund has been created by the McCormick Foundation and Newsday Charities, to help Long Islanders rebuild from the destruction Sandy left behind. Through this effort, the McCormick Foundation's matching challenge was met, raising an additional $250,000 for recovery efforts. This is a welcome project for those who are still displaced along the different communities.
As of now there have been more than $1 million will be donated to several Long Island nonprofit organizations in order to help people rebuild, recover, and regrow their businesses and family ties. To help with the recovery effort there is going to be a special Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief event will be held on Friday, December 7th, from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m., at CJ Wellington's, Franklin Square.
There will be a $10 donation at the door for each person who attends. Also, the monies raised at this event, and all other sponsored events, will go directly to those who are recovering and build hope throughout Long Island. Plus the first $500,000 raised will be matched by the McCormick Foundation at 50 cents on the dollar.
Make time on Dec. 7th to attend this worwhile event to help bring Long Island back better than ever.
