For the fourth consecutive year Long Island Applebee's have joined with others in the chain to say "Thank you" to our veterans and active duty servicemen and women. Even in the days after a devastating storm came ashore and accrued over $20 billion in damage, it is great to see that there is still a place for honoring those who honored us with their service.
As a standing tradition now, Applebee's from Long Island and in New Jersey have rolled out the red carpet to U.S. Veterans and active duty military. This year, the area’s 60 restaurants, operated by Doherty Enterprises, Inc., served more than 18,000 “Thank You” meals in honor of those who have served our nation.
It was a great day as veterans from all branches of the military, who served in Korea, Vietman, Iraq, and Afghanistan were welcome on Nov. 11th to Applebee's stores where they joined with active duty personnel from the Army Corps of Engineers who came up from bases like Fort Bragg, North Carolina and others who are helping with the recovery efforts due to Hurricane Sandy.
Last year, throughout the country, the Applebee's chain of restaurants dutifully served 1,024,000 free meals to veterans and active duty military servicemen and women. It is an event that shows gives back, through a free meal, to those who have truly sacrificed in service for their country.
Marc Prince, Director of Operations for the Long Island Applebee’s said, "We say ‘Thank You’ with a free meal, but this day at Applebee’s is really more about creating connections. Veterans gather to share stories, meet up with old friends and make new ones. This is by far our favorite day of the year. It’s our honor and privilege to serve and show our thanks to these men and women.”
