When it comes to outstanding pizza places on Long Island, there are plenty to choose from. Every type of pizza imaginable can be found in one of the many different pizza restaurants around the different communities. However, when it comes to the top of the pizza chain, there are only a few at the top. Recently, I shared with you my three favorite long island pizza restaurants, and I am excited to learn that Grimaldi's is now opening another location in Sea Cliff.
The amazing coal-fired pizzeria is now continuing its trend of opening new stores, and has settled on the great area of Sea Cliff to do it. This particular store, though, is not a part of the chain in Garden City. But, that does not mean that the new owner is a newbie to the restaurant scene. Mike Napoli, who owns the Sea Cliff franchise, is a former Wall Street guy who has “restaurants in his blood.” Before it closed, Napoli’s mother owned the Club House in Port Washington. He’s also a pizza aficionado, a firm believer in the superiority of the coal oven, and a longtime fan of Grimaldi’s. So, the next obvious move was to open his own.
Napoli is also keeping the Grimaldi's tradition alive with its coal-fired ovens and no slices. “We don’t have any pies sitting around on the shelf,” Napoli said. “I’d rather people didn’t even take out. The pie should be eaten fresh out of the oven.”
The new Grimaldi's at 243 Glen Cove Ave., Sea Cliff, will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. “til closing” and the menu doesn’t stray far from pizzas (small, $12; large, $14) and salad.
