I have had countless terrible experiences with this bank. I have no idea why I stuck with them for so long. I finally switched to a credit union and have been worlds happier.

Terrible bank all around. I can't actaully name one positive aspect of this place (which is now Wells Fargo btw, so avoid them like the plague too, at least if you live on the east coast). I am now a member of a credit union, and the difference is indescribable. you are treated like a human being at the credit union. To these people you represent one thing - profit.

I was a member of Wachovia for ... I think, like, a year? Oh wait, sorry, that's credit union language. I was a -customer- of Wachovia. Now I am a member of a local credit union. Meaning I own a share in the company. A very small amount. And am treated with the respect I deserve ;)
Wachovia was not a terrible experience, I'll admit it. But it wasn't a good one either. What I was used to were long lines, lukewarm customer service, an online interface which wasn't that bad, and ... mediocrity all around really.
Here's what I get from being a member of a credit union: very inviting customer service, a friendlier, more comfortable atmosphere, a great online service, and a much more personal experience all around. It is worlds better. You have to experience it to understand the difference.

I have not really enjoyed my experience banking with Wachovia. For the first few months everything seemed to be okay, but then thanks to an error made by a teller I found my balance abruptly in the negative. Of course the first action from the bank was to start charging me fees, not inform me of the problem. Nor of course did they suspect that the cause might be on their end (like it was). I had to go in there twice to resolve the issue, and each time I wanted a total of thirty minutes and fifty minutes respectively, just to talk to someone, and then spent another hour in conversation between the two visits combined. That's a big time loss to get those stupid fees erased. And what did they do that whole time? Kept acting like they weren't even sure they COULD get the fees erased. They owed me money. It was ridiculous!
I just want to get out of here and put my money somewhere it feels evenly marginally safe. For real!

This is the bank which gave us our house loan - and foreclosed on us. They were Wells Fargo then, but the Wachovia takeover did nothing to spare us from the unfair treatment we received. They refused to work with us (even though we probably qualify for several government programs), communicated poorly or not at all, and did all this even though we paid on time every month for ten years before the recession hit us. I'll probably never be able to afford a house again, but you can bet if I ever take out another home loan again, it won't be with Wachovia or any other big bank.
