When my hair was longer, some salon person once said to me, "why don't you layer it?" Big mistake. Huge. It did nothing for my hair except make it all different lengths, and it looked ridiculous. Somehow, the salon worker at Supercuts convinced me into layering my hair -again-.
Amazingly, this was not a disaster. On the contrary, my hair looks fabulous. Why? Probably because this time it was shorter. At least, that's what she explained to me. It turns out I never even understood the principle behind layering hair. It has to do with the fact that it adds texture and volume and helps it to be fluffier and more, well, interesting to look at. But that doesn't work if your hair is too long and heavy, which weighs it all down. It looks awesome on my shorter hair.
So kudos to a knowledgeable salon employee for explaining the goal of layering to me and convincing me to do it again.
