I love golf, but I'm not really into pretentious golf scenes. I'm a medium income guy. I don't have an arm and a leg to spend on membership fees, and I like to golf with people I can relate to. Northport Golf Club is a great place. You can tell the moment you see it that it's not a pretentious golf club for the high and mighty. That isn't to say the high and mighty don't golf here as well - it's a lovely course with nine holes (but it's set up so you can play it as eighteen). The club's been around for almost a century now, and it's easy to see why. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with friends or family.
Stop by the snack bar to get a bite while you're here. The food is pretty good, and once again, unpretentious and affordable. Is it a social club? Yes, and I'm glad of that. But GOLF is the focus here--not money.
