I have TMJ and I don't want to get surgery, because I don't think that the surgery has well recorded results (doctors still aren't sure whether it's effective). It's really frustrating though because despite the fact that this is an incredibly common and debilitating condition, my primary care physician never seemed to know what to do with it. So I finally gave up trying to get him to do anything for me and went to this pain clinic. They've helped me out with massage therapy, chiropractic treatment and other techniques, and also shown me some useful stretches which have helped as well. They do have me on a medication, but I feel like they're trying to really help make me better, not just drug me for the pain. The medications they have given me are better than what I was getting before, so that's also an improvement.
But mostly it's just so nice to have someone finally understand what's going on with me. It was really exhausting and disturbing to have so many professionals act like they weren't (professional), and like nothing was wrong with me just because they couldn't see it. If you have pain management issues, go to a pain clinic; don't wait.
