Dowling College originated in 1955 when Adelphi College offered extension classes in Port Jefferson, Riverhead, and Sayville. In 1959, at the urging of community leaders, Adelphi Suffolk College became the first four year, degree granting liberal arts institution in Suffolk County, housed in an old public school building in Sayville. In January 1963, Adelphi Suffolk College purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale and began developing as an important educational force on Long Island. Today, Dowling College is an independent comprehensive educational institution in the liberal arts tradition whose mission is to provide our students with a well-rounded education based upon innovative teaching, informed and engaging research, and a commitment to democratic citizenship with a community service component. We foster an open and supportive learning environment that is based upon collaboration between a committed and supportive expert faculty and a student body diverse in its interests, beliefs, culture, ethnicity, and geographic origin. We recognize learning as a lifetime endeavor, particularly as it relates to globalization. The college upholds its educational mission through teaching, learning and research in the arts, sciences and professions such as education, business and aviation, and by providing members of the community and Dowling alumni with opportunities for continuing education.

Dowling College is a great learning experience for anyone. They offer educational equipment and teaching facilities that are modern and innovative and they give students the chance to evolve in their learning methods. The schedule is set up by the collaboration of both students and teachers and is suitable to their needs of learning and fun. Dowling College is really a well esteemed and respected college in the area and is interesting to pay a visit and learn more about it, if you are planning to send your kids there.

When searching for a college, there are many things that you should consider. With the choice of Dowling College, you can be sure that the educational system will be of the highest quality, the students will be well informed and will get all the facilities in order to do some research and get a great learning experience all day long. In Dowling College learning is made to be fun and recreational, not dull at all. It is greatly affordable and a well respected college. One of the top choices in the field of education in general.

Considering I wanted to go to college somewhere different, Dowling College was perfect. I not only got a good education, but it was different in that it was housed in an old public school building which added to it's rich history. The professors are always on top of everything. Great school!
