Trying to find that perfect dockside restaurant for a special date with a special gal or guy? This is the best of the best IMO. The location is wonderful. You really get that seaside atmosphere, and get to watch the boats at the marina as you eat. For anyone who enjoys the whole nautical thing, this is a must-try restaurant.
The food! The food ... can't skip the best part! They make the most delicious lobster you will ever try in your life. Their sides are addictive too. And they give you plenty to eat! I never have walked away from my plate here hungry, and usually I walk away with some left over for later that night or tomorrow.

If a friend of mine were coming from out of town and wanted to eat some really great food and experience Long Island for all it's worth, this is exactly where I would bring them. You get to sit right next to the harbor outside, and the food is delicious locally caught seafood. The costs aren't what they are at other restaurants in the area--much lower, which makes this restaurant even better. Be sure to get a waiter's attention when you arrive; they are easily distracted, because they are so popular.

We love to eat out here and watch the activity of the harbor. It's one of our favorite spots to bring our visiting relatives and friends too, because it's exactly what most folks are picturing when they think about Long Island. Get any seafood order here and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful little discovery this was. My wife and I were visiting the marina looking for a sailboat to rent, and at the end of the day, we noticed this little restaurant on the dock called Canal Cafe. We didn't really feel like going home and making dinner, so we took a seat and ordered. We both got seafood, and it was top notch--and not expensive! It was a lovely place to sit and watch all the goings-on in the harbor, and imagine sailing ourselves one day! We'll be enrolling in classes at the end of the month. We will probably make this restaurant a regular part of our plans. It's convenient, relaxing, in a beautiful spot, and has delicious, affordable food!

As far as atmosphere goes, it doesn't get better than this place, which is situated right at the marina. You can eat on the dockside and watch as the boats go past and enjoy the outdoors. It's Long Island at its best. The seafood entrees are fabulous, and appetizers aren't bad either. Prices are quite reasonable. There are a lot of places where you go on LI and pay a heck of a lot for seafood, but I'd much rather come out here and enjoy the marina and pay less for equally great food.
Best menu item is in my opinion the lobster roll. Then again, I'm a huge fan of one of the best culinary inventions on the whole East Coast - especially now that I've been around a bit and realize you can't buy these things in every state. They're pretty much an East-Coast-only food. So now that I'm back in Long Island, I intend to visit the Canal Cafe and enjoy as many of them as possible.
A last note on service; it's okay, it's not great. It's a bit slow. But otherwise, no complaints. It's not a big enough detractor to take this place down to four stars. It deserves all five, and YOUR business!
