“Princesses: Long Island,” a reality show on Bravo which debuted last year, has been cancelled. The show had its fans, but it had a much larger number of detractors who had serious issues with the content. From the first episode of the first season, “Princesses: Long Island” drew criticism from Long Islanders, who saw it as an inaccurate representation of the lifestyle of the island’s wealthy elite. Members of the Jewish community on and off Long Island were also offended by the show’s portrayal of Jewish people. To top it off, there was a scene where one of the cast members disrespected a statue of firefighter Jonathan Lee Ielpi, who died in the south tower of the World Trade Cetner on September 11th. This last may well have been the scene which sealed the show’s fate.
Bravo declined to comment on the cancellation of the show, but a source at Comcast-NBC Universal has confirmed it. Bravo has also announced the full list of programs which will be airing new seasons this year, and the list did not mention “Princesses: Long Island.” Bravo has not discussed the show in months, which is yet another indicator that the show has likely indeed been cancelled.
