What: World Book Night is an annual celebration on April 23rd designed to spread a love of reading and books. Organizers chose the April 23rd to tie in with UNESCO’s World Book Day, the anniversary of Cervantes’ death, and the date of Shakespeare’s birth and death. The campaign involves volunteers going out into the community to distribute free books to new and light readers. At last year’s launch event in the U.K., volunteers distributed more than 1 million free books. This year, World Book Night expands to the U.S., Ireland and Germany, with tens of thousands of volunteers participating. For more information, visit http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/
