The Suffolk County SPCA announced today that they have charged an Amityville woman with Animal Cruelty stemming from the dumping of 2 puppies in Riverhead on December 18th. One of the puppies has since died. Swaneka P.J. Danzler, 21, admitted to SPCA officers that she dumped the puppies at about 1am at the Riverhead Animal Hospital. Steve Laton of the SPCA, credits the diligent work of SPCA officers in the apprehension of the subject.
The Suffolk County SPCA has increased the award to $3,000. The male puppy succumbed to his injuries last night. "He had to be kept on intravenous fluids because he was too weak to eat, but unfortunately he did not survive," said Chief Roy Gross. Animal Cruelty should not be tolerated. It occurs all too frequently! We are saddened each time we receive a call that someone has harmed an animal.
SUFFOLK SPCA OFFERS $2,000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION
The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $2,000.00 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for dumping 2 Pit Bull puppies at the Riverhead Animal Hospital.
Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that the agency was contacted with a report that someone had dumped the puppies on December 18th, possibly between midnight and daybreak in a six-foot deep window well. The puppies had severe mange and were near death.
Gross said that further examination revealed that the mange was so severe on the male that it's skin was peeling off. These puppies are going to require extensive veterinary care before they can be adopted. The male is receiving intravenous fluids because he is too weak to eat or drink. Donations towards their care would make a difference.
"This is a blatant act of cruelty and abandonment and we will do everything we can to see that those responsible are apprehended," Gross said.
Anyone with information can contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
