Oktoberfest is traditionally a 16-day festival celebrated over beer in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. People around the world attend the event. But, just because we’re on Long Island doesn’t mean we can’t have an Oktoberfest of our own!
Several weeks earlier, we highlighted German restaurants and bars sprouting up throughout Long Island. To celebrate Oktoberfest, which typically runs through the end of this weekend and in some cases extends to later in October, we highlight places for Oktoberfest celebration on Long Island.
- Rowdy Hall is the place to be to find $24 German fare Fester Preis and beer specials. It also has a commemorative beer mug for $7. Participation in tastings goes for $9. Some of the beers on tap include Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, Warsteiner Premium Pilsner and others. Its dinner special runs from Oct. 4-7. It includes Saubraten with braised red cabbage, turnip potato puree and black forest trifle. Rowdy Hall is located at 10 Main Street in the Parrish Mews in East Hampton.
- Plattduetsche Park Restaurant has an indoor Oktoberfest event from 7:30pm to 11:30pm on Friday, Oct. 5th. It’ll have a buffet complete with German specialties, unlimited beer, wine and soda and live music by Spitzbuam. The cost is $45 per person and reservations are required at 516-354-3131. Plattduetsche Park Restaurant is located at 1132 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square.
- Black Forest Brews Haus has Oktoberfest running thru Oct. 13. Each weekend it’ll feature live music by different artists, including John Weber Band this Friday, Happy Wanderers this Saturday and Bud & Linda this Sunday. It’ll also have special brunch and dinner options. Black Forest Brews Haus is located at 2015 New Highway in Farmingdale.
Oktoberfest has been held since 1810 in Germany. It’s clearly an important part of the German culture, and a festival that all Long Islanders can enjoy as well!
