Since the beginning of the year, just a few days ago, many people have stepped up their efforts to finding that elusive job in 2013. Of course, they are also competing with several other "resolutionists" as they too vie for a job. Jobs are scarce all over the country, not just in Long Island. However, there are three sectors that are growing in which you may want to look.
The first is in the area of road construction and maintenance. While this is not your typical white collar type of job, it is something that you can make fairly good money at for a temporary period of time. Unfortunatley, not all road work jobs are permanent, unless you have a skill iike driving a dump truck or paving machine. But, for laborers there is always a call. This may be just what you need in the downtime between that lay off slip and finding another position.
The field of medicine is another area in which a person can find a job pretty quickly. Of course, there are plenty of positions in which there is some schooling needed. However, a CNA is a course that can be completed within 6 months. After that you can work in many different areas.
Another sector in which there is a cry for workers is, well not really a paying position. Volunteers are needed for a great many services that we take for granted. Simply answering the phone at the front desk of a hospital, helping your school with a bake sale, working at a library a few hours a day, and other "mundane" tasks are essential to how we live. Giving up some of your time to volunteer will not only give you a great feeling, but may lead to something more.
If you are still looking for a job in Long Island, then take a look at some of these sectors. It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but may fill the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
