A warm and toasty bagel can make a great breakfast or lunch. On Long Island, there are some divine options. There are bagel shops that are family-run and that have been going at the bagel business for generations. Some have also created another generation of bagels called flagels – a flattened version of the bagel that’s denser. We bring to you two such bagel shops worthy of some attention.
In Bethpage and Farmingdale, there’s Stuff A Bagel. It has been in the bagel business for many years following a 40+ year old recipe. Its bagels are boiled and baked, the old fashioned way. It has available several varieties of bagels, from Plain to Everything. It also offers gourmet breakfasts served with bagels, including blueberry pancakes, omelets and more. You can also find Panini sandwiches, wraps, muffins, coffee cake and other pastries.
Over at Bagel Boss, with locations in East Northport, Carle Place, Roslyn, Lake Success, Commack, Oceanside, Merrick, Port Washington, East Norwich, Hicksville, Hewlett and Jericho, it has also been at the bagel business for generations. Its business goes back to 1975 when it opened its first store in Plainview. Its bagels come is many varieties, including healthier choices such as low carb multi-grain. This is also the shop where the bagel cousin Flagel is claimed to have been developed. Customers can also enjoy cooked smoked fish, lasagna, Panini sandwiches, kosher and dairy products and much more for breakfast and lunch.
A fresh, warm toasty bagel makes a great choice to help fulfill that hungry stomach for breakfast or lunch.
