More than 30 entrepreneurs on Long Island who have been looking for a chance to get in the spotlight are competing for a chance to land their video products on Walmart’s shelves. Walmart is offering 20 spots for runners-up and 5 for winners. The runners-up will all have a chance to work with the production company Vimby to create videos of their products and stories. Vimby is a well known production house that has worked on TV series like “Survivor.” The top 5 winners will also be offered the chance to sell their products on Walmart’s website and maybe even in Walmart stores.
One of the competitors is an accountant named Vinny Mazzurco. He has a DVD on baseball which he hopes to get onto Wal-Mart’s shelves. Another competitor, Diane Carpentieri, is a real estate broker in Greenport. She is hoping her portable cooling water bowl for pets will win. While she already sells her invention in other stores, she believes she could reach a much larger consumer base if Walmart selects her to win. “It’s an interesting way to engage with customers and give them a voice in helping them to pick products they want to purchase from Walmart,” explained spokesman Ravi Jariwala.
