Art lovers who are looking for something fun and unique to do to celebrate Valentine’s Day might consider making a date to visit the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton. The Parrish Art Museum opened its doors in Water Mill next to the Duck Walk Vineyards in November of last year, so it’s still not as widely known as some other destinations in Long Island. Nonetheless, the museum’s popularity has been surging as more and more people discover the beautifully curated gallery. This month is “Family Month” at the museum, and features a student art show which will be open through the 3rd of March.
The original Parrish Art Museum was housed in a smaller, 17,000 square foot space on Jobs Lane, and was known as the Art Gallery of Southampton. The brand new 14 acre site at Water Mill has provides substantially more space to house the 2,700 pieces in the art collection. The museum itself is another work of art; it is an intriguing architectural structure intended to reflect the idea of a long potato barn, but constructed of concrete, glass and steel in a contemporary fashion. Exhibits regularly come and go, so there is always something new to see at the art museum.
