TIRE RACK STREET SURVIVAL RETURNS TO NEW YORK TO TEACH TEENS HOW TO ‘ARRIVE ALIVE’ DURING THIS SUMMER’S ‘100 DEADLIEST DAYS’
WHAT: Tire Rack Street Survival® National Non-Profit Teen Driving Program
WHERE: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
1255 Hempstead Turnpike
Uniondale, NY 11553
WHEN: Saturday, July 14th, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
WHY PREVIEW/COVER IT:
More than 5,000 youths ages 15 - 20 are involved in fatal motor vehicle crashes each year. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), the summer months (June, July and August) are the most dangerous. During the past five summers (2006-2010), an average of eight teens (ages 16-19) were killed each day in car accidents (more than 3,800 total), earning the stretch from Memorial Day to Labor Day the nickname of the 100 Deadliest Days on the road. The majority of fatal accidents were attributed to common driving errors.
Tire Rack Street Survival is a national non-profit teen driving education program that teaches teens the skills they need to stay alive behind the wheel, including how to avoid these common driving errors. Unlike traditional driver education programs based on classroom theory and simple maneuvers, the Tire Rack Street Survival program improves driver competence through hands-on experiences in real-world driving situations. The program will be held in New York on Saturday, July 14.
