There are many different things that Long Island has become famous for in the last several years. One of those is the great wine that is produced through the different wineries along the island. This award wining wine rivals those of Napa Valley. One other great delight within Long island is the great Sushi restaurants that adorn the different communities. While there are many, there are five that are truly spectacular and should not be missed.
Sumou Sushi is located in Bayshore and delivers the utmost in this favorite Oriental style cuisine. Located in a strip mall along the main street, Sumou Sushi continues to grow each year. Inside the restaurant there is a nice decor with wooden tables and booths on one side and a large hibachi section on the other side. There are Japanese styled wall lamps and iridescent tiles adorning some of the walls and the area by the small sushi bar in the back. The favorite dishes include Yankee Sandwich, Sea Bass, Tom Yum, and Crispy Duck.
Another great sushi restaurant is Tobiko. This brand new restaurant in Valley Stream is already receiving incredibly high marks for both the atmposhere and the food. Being found within a Merrick Road strip mall may not sound like it would lead too much, but the venue is spacious, beautiful, and complete with surprisingly intimate areas where you can be alone for a wonderful date night. The food is good too. The favorite meals are Salmon Toro Tartar and Seafood Rainbow Casserole.
Great Neck is not to be left out when it comes to great sushi style restaurants. When people drive by the Matsuya they can be lulled into thinking that there is nothing special to be offered here. They would be very wrong in that assumption. The indoor is a minimal take on what makes a great restaurant. And, the atmosphere is wondeful. The managers, Bernard and Linda, are very busy as they go from table to table talking with regulars and new customers alike. Great menu items include eel, shy-shimi, and oysters.
If you are looking for a wonderful night out, then head to one of Long Island's great sushi restaurants.
