When it comes to dining out there are those fads that come in and out of popularity. Right now, one of the more popular fads is small portions of favorite dishes. Many Long Island restaurants have begun serving these smaller dishes or have made leaping improvements in the ones they already had. It is not just a dieting fad, but one where you can eat and enjoy the food rather than trying to eat a serving that is too much.
Here are three of restaurants I have been enjoying some smaller dishes at lately.
The great thing about this place is that the cuisine of Argentina stands out here. But one of the most popular menus covers the kitchen's spins on tapas: grilled sardines, paella with chorizo sausage, garlicky shrimp, assorted empanadas and, of course, Serrano ham
This amazing place in Great Neck features some truly great tasting foods in very small packages with the menu changing daily. Tasting plates might include baked scallop in roe-flecked sauce, “tandoori inspired” venison chop with apricot chutney and a savory fricassee of cipollini onions, mushrooms, chestnuts and haricots verts.
Savoy Tavern
One of my favorite places to enjoy a cold draft and a good meal while in Merrick. Savoy Tavern offers a combination of good brews on draft and in bottle, plus lively cocktails and dependable wines. The small plates range from $7 to $16 and include Sicilian chickpea fritters, Tucson pork buns and baked clams.
Want to try some small dishes? Try out these three mainstay Long Island culinary delights and find out that smaller may just be better.
