On Saturday morning, students and officials at Baldwin High School on Ethel T. Klobert Drive discovered a threatening message on the cafeteria window written in black magic marker sometime between 10:30 pm the previous night and 8:07 that morning. Police did not disclose the message on the window to the public, but students interviewed by the press stated that the message was a bomb threat with specific dates and times mentioned.
In response to the message, school officials and police upped security at the school on Monday morning, requiring students to check their bookbags. Unfortunately this is not the only issue to have arisen at Baldwin High School recently. The school has a turbulent social climate and students routinely get into fights, are faced with threats, or even have to go through lockdowns. When the bell rings and school lets out, students are required to exit the building immediately and not linger around on campus so as to eliminate after-school violence. During last October’s homecoming football game, one student was stabbed, and several gunshots rang out. Students at the school have blamed the ongoing threats on students from rival schools, insisting that the problem does not stem from within the school itself.
