East End Hospice is pleased to announce the Rev. Charles Cary will be the recipient of its 14th Annual Good Samaritan Award presented at “An Enchanted Evening,” the Annual Hospice Summer Benefit to be held onJune 29, 2013. The Hospice Board of Directors established the award in memory of Dorothy P. Savage, the founder of East End Hospice, who was an outstanding humanitarian. The recipient of the award is chosen each year to acknowledge exceptional dedication to humanitarian causes in the community.
The Rev. Dr. Charles M. Cary has been involved with East End Hospice since its origins. A potluck dinner in the Parish Hall at Westhampton Presbyterian Church served as a catalyst for founder Dottie Savage’s organizational efforts, while gifts in memory of Hugh Savage provided the beginnings of community support for East End Hospice, now approaching its third decade.
Since those early years, Chuck has continued to serve the community both as Pastor to the Westhampton and Quogue congregations, and through the donation of his time and talents to numerous local charitable and volunteer organizations.
In addition to serving on the Advisory Board at East End Hospice, Chuck has served the community through his involvement with the Long Island Interfaith Council, Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), Westhampton Beach School Board, Habitat for Humanity, and the Anti-Bias Task Force. Chuck also chaired the successful first capital campaign in support of the Long Island Council of Churches.
The East End Hospice Summer Party is held annually at the waterfront Potts estate "Sandacres" in Quogue, New York. Bonnie Grice, producer, host, interviewer, and award-winning broadcaster at 88.3 Peconic Public Broadcasting, will emcee the evening. Dinner, Dancing, casino-style gaming, and silent and live auctions will ensure a fun and lively evening.
Betsy Rowe, co-chair, shared her thoughts on Hospice. “I am privileged to support East End Hospice as a volunteer through this annual event. Not only is it an incredibly fun party, it is heartwarming to see my summer friends and my local friends come together to benefit such a worthy organization, one that is extremely vital to our community. East End Hospice was here for my family when my mom, Verity O'Brien, was terminally ill; my brother, Bim Webb, was under Hospice care in Virginia and my uncle is currently living in Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. I know first-hand how Hospice enables a quality completion of life that is respectful, honorable and peaceful. I am involved with "Sandacres" to make sure hospice is an option for everyone here on the East End.”
Georgia Hatch, co-chair, “The acknowledgement of Rev. Cary's many contributions to East End Hospice and other community organizations through the Good Samaritan Award is a special and well deserved cause for celebration. We are looking forward to supporting the continued good work of East End Hospice at its new facility on Quiogue.”
