I can remember the first time I was at The Downtown music venue in Farmingdale. The music was loud, the people were jammed, and the entire atmosphere was party, have fun, and forget about your troubles for awhile. It was great. But, then it closed in 2005, as well as several other great places. For a stretch of time, you had to search high and low for a live music event on Long Island that was of national caliber. Now, thanks to The Paramount, Long Island has once again entered into the live music fray with a 25,000 square foot venue that has been rocking it since it opened in 2011.
The Paramount filled the gap between Long Island's smaller clubs and high-capacity venues like Jones Beach and Nassau Coliseum. Bands like Motion City Soundtrack, Yellowcard, and Glassjaw -- each of which could draw a significant number of guests, but perhaps not enough to sell out an arena -- finally had a viable place to play on Long Island. This is great for those who want to have a night out with great bands, but didn't want to be crowded into a small place.
The Paramount, which is located at 370 New York Ave. in Huntington, New York, used to be an IMAX movie theater. However, the venue has been renovated back to its look and feel of the 1920s, when it was a two-story vaudeville theater. Talk about an incredible atmosphere!
