The Board of Trustees of the recently opened North Shore Historical Museum, at 140 Glen Street in Glen Cove, are thrilled to announce the first full exhibit “Abandoned Trunks,” costumes and accessories of the Gold Coast era of the North Shore, presented by Monica Randall, historian, expert on the mansions and fashions of the Gatsby era.
Many of the gowns are from the 1920’s and were worn by ladies of Woolworth, Tiffany, Hutton, Woodward and other wealthy families of the North Shore, including the Countess of Bismarck.
The exhibit will officially open on Saturday May 4 with a special preview reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres on Friday May 3, at 7pm and will be at the NSHM until Labor Day, September 2. Flapper or Gold Coast theme costumes are encouraged at this reception.
Ms Randall will give a series of lectures during the time when the collection will be on exhibit. NSHM is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Admission to the preview party on May 3 is $30 for non members and $25 for members. Checks made out to NSHM should be sent to PO Box 217 Glen Cove NY 11542.
