CAN YOU TEXT? THEN YOU CAN SAVE A LIFE!
March 26, 2012, Bellmore, NY - Long Island Crisis Center (LICC), the 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, is launching a new, innovative tool to reach youth and adults – crisis intervention through texting!
The Crisis Center is now recruiting volunteers to undergo a concentrated and intensive training that prepares you to deliver lifesaving counseling that utilizes your texting expertise.
The first step is to become a Counselor Assistant. This free orientation training program takes place over 3 three-hour sessions at the Crisis Center's office in Bellmore. May's training will be held on 3 successive Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on May 10th, 17th and 24th. June's training will be held on 3 successive Mondays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on June 11th, 18th and 25th. No experience is necessary and the hours are flexible (around-the-clock) to accommodate the individual needs of volunteers.
