10th Annual Teeny Awards Winners
Announced at the Awards Ceremony held at Eastport-South Manor High School
(RIVERHEAD, NY, June 11, 2012) – East End Arts is thrilled to announce the 2012 Teeny Awards winners, presented during the formal awards ceremony held at Eastport-South Manor High School on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Nominees, decked out in their formal attire, decorated the pre-show red carpet, and at the commencement of the awards ceremony, were presented individually to the audience as they filed into the spotlight onstage one at a time to thunderous applause. Arts supporters, theatre professionals, and prominent community members presented the winning awards, and each winner received a glass trophy. The Teeny Awards, conceived from the idea of the Antoinette Perry Awards – The Tony Awards – for Broadway shows, has been celebrating excellence in high school theater across the East End of Long Island since 2002, and is presented and coordinated by East End Arts.
The audience was treated to scenes from some outstanding performances from this year’s productions from the 15 participating high schools in the region, and celebrated the best of the best in East End high school theater. Performances included Westhampton Beach’s cast of A Chorus Line, Southold's cast of Curtains, Riverhead's cast of Working, and host school Eastport-South Manor's cast performed a collage from West Side Story. In addition, East End Arts' 2012 Music Masters Fellowship High School Vocal Students performed, under the direction of renowned singer/songwriter and international recording artist, Lauren Kinhan. Morgan Vaughan, Teeny Awards Coordinator comments about her first year organizing the program: "I've loved being part of the 10thAnniversary! When I took this job, I knew I'd get involved with the process, I just didn't know how much! I really started to root for the students and get sort of addicted to seeing them really grow, change and stretch themselves. I believe everything we're saying that theatre and arts education does, so it's easy for me to promote this. I just wish the whole world knew how important it is - and hopefully, we're showing it! I can't wait to see where we are ten years from now, and where the kids who are graduating are, and what they'll have to say about the experience. We have one presenter, Matthew Libassi, who won for best actor the first year of the Teeny’s - he's now a television producer at Fox News, and can't say enough good things about what theatre taught him."
Pat Snyder, Executive Director of East End Arts comments about the 10th Anniversary of the program: “The Teeny Awards have accomplished in the past ten years exactly what was expected - calling attention to the value of theatre experience in developing well rounded, confident young adults. East End Arts is proud to have introduced this very special program that recognizes and applauds our talented students of the East End.”
The 10th Annual Teeny Awards is made possible by the generous support of sponsors. We extend our thanks to Lead Sponsors, Suffolk County National Bank and Riverhead Toyota, as well as Astoria Federal Savings, Joseph & Mary Ann Martorano, and Bridgehampton National Bank, and Media Sponsors WPPB 88.3FM and MyLITV.com.
