Farmingville, NY - March 3, 2016 - Robert G. Allen, President and CEO of Teachers Federal Credit Union (TFCU) was joined by Town of Brookhaven Supervisor, Ed Romaine, to announce partnership between the Town and the Credit Union to co-sponsor the Town’s 2016 paper shredding events, on Monday, February 29, at Brookhaven Town Hall in Brookhaven, NY.
“Document disposal is important for safeguarding critical information,” said Mr. Allen. “TFCU is honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the largest town in Suffolk County, and it’s always great to provide our membership a needed, in-demand service.
Allen continued, "aside from the security benefits of shredding, the environmental benefits of proper e-waste disposal and drug drop-offs are essential towards protecting our bays, streams and groundwater. This partnership with Brookhaven Town has positive benefits for all residents."
During the press conference, TFCU also presented a $2,000 check to Supervisor Romaine as part of the sponsorship.
Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Councilmen Dan Panico, Kevin LaValle and Michael Loguercio, Neil Foley, as well as the Town Board Liaison to the Department of Waste Management were also in attendance.
In an effort to curb identity thieves and recycle paper products, the Town of Brookhaven hosts annual shredding events in every Council District and TFCU offers these events to their members. These Town and TFCU paper shredding events are open to all Brookhaven Town residents.
Through these events, TFCU has collected thousands of pounds of paper. In 2015, the Town hosted 12 paper-shredding events, which provided more than 75,000 pounds of paper for recycling. As more residents take advantage of this opportunity, the Town has needed to increase the number of events to twelve events annually to host two in each Council District.
