Target Corporation has just showed its support for children in need on Long Island by donating $4,000 to Long Island Cares, Inc. Long Island Cares has been providing food to LI families since 1980. The retail giant's donation goes to funding their Pack It Up for Kids weekend food program, which was established five years ago, and provides foods and snacks to children on the weekends and during holidays when they cannot receive school lunches. This is the third year in a row that Target has donated to Pack It Up for Kids, brining their donation total over that timeframe to $13,000.
Long Island school districts identify children who are in need for Pack It Up for Kids. These same children typically qualify for free or reduced-cost meals while in school during the week. Long Island Cares works with five different school districts to provide these weekend meals, having added two new districts in the past year. “Without corporate grants such as this one from Target, this program would cease to exist,” says Robin Amato, the Director of Development for Long Island Cares. “We are grateful to the Target Corporation for making this commitment to Long Island children who otherwise would face long weekends without sufficient nutritious food.”
