The holiday season has many people rushing around with last minute holiday shopping and completing other errands before the end of the year. It’s time to take a moment and just stop. What better way to do that than finding a restaurant that can take you back in time to the 50’s and 60’s and that offer great tasting food.
This week we highlight two such restaurants that have a history on Long Island and that can provide comfort to those feeling a bit nostalgic for the good old days.
All American Hamburger Drive-In in Massapequa has local residents and people visiting town coming back time and time again. They all crave for its great burgers and fries. The restaurant has been around since 1963, but not much has changed. At the front of the restaurant, you can still find neon lights and it still serves fresh all beef burgers, hand-cut Idaho fries, and hot dogs at affordable prices. Even famous stars like Jerry Seinfeld and Alec Baldwin make a visit to it on occasions they’ve been in town. The restaurant doesn’t have any indoor seating, but there are plenty of outdoor table benches or you can simply take the food to-go.
Mineola Diner in Mineola opened in 1948 and today it still stands looking like the old era. It offers décor and a vibe that brings you back to the 50’s. It’s a place where you can sit back to enjoy pancakes, omelettes, cannoli-stuffed French toast, corned beef hash, home-made soup and much more. It has table and counter stool seating. Stop by for breakfast or lunch. You can also grab a fresh hot cup of coffee.
We all need to take some time to stop and relax in the rush of all the year-end errands.
Come back each week for new features on entertainment, shopping and dining opportunities on Long Island.
