Yesterday, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone together with Fire Rescue Emergency Services (FRES) Commissioner Joe Williams got together to announce that they will be implementing an initiative called Smart911. Smart911 is a product developed by Rave Mobile Safety. With Smart911, residents of SuffolkCounty will be able to create a Safety Profile for their household. This profile will be accessible to emergency response teams so that they can immediately view important information about the household and its members. For example, fire response teams will be able to see the locations of bedrooms, and emergency medical responders will know whether household members have allergies or other health conditions they should be aware of before delivering treatment.
Smart911 is a low-cost initiative that will have the power to streamline emergency response operations and potentially save numerous lives. By making critical information openly and clearly available in times of distress, household members will be able to aid responders in making vital choices, even if they themselves are unable to communicate during the emergency. “Every bit of intelligence that can inform our first responders and help them prepare for the emergency situation they face will help save lives,” said legislator Kara Hahn.
