Long Beach, New York January 09, 2013
On Thursday, January 10th, 2013, multiple storm recovery specialists will present crucial information that every home and business owner needs to know to assess property damage and protect themselves when filing an insurance claim. Speakers will include John Houghtaling, insurance litigation specialist, Jeffrey Major, one of the nation’s leading forensic building estimators and claims adjustors, and Hunter Botto, President of the NY State Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors’ Association.
John Houghtaling, who has recently spoken before residents of Huntington, NY and the Village of Freeport, NY, was invited to speak in Long Beach by attorney, homeowner, and former Long Beach City Council Member Denis G. Kelly. He has built a prominent career from battling insurance companies on behalf of home and business owners, and knows how they manipulate the system to the policy holders’ disadvantage. The presentation will also detail the important points every property owner should understand in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, including why property owners: (1) Are entitled to unconditional payments, (2) Should get an independent inspection, (3) Must take careful note of disaster chronology, (4) Need to know the 15/15 Day Rule, and (5) Have the option of asking for help untangling the insurance companies’ red tape.
Jeffrey Major will share his extensive knowledge of the property and casualty industry, helping attendees learn more about the ins and outs of independent inspection and how to pick the right independent adjuster. Hunter Botto has been a licensed master plumber since 1989, and currently serves on the National Government Relations Committee of the PHCC. He will advise attendees on best practices for assessing plumbing damage, how to find a reputable plumber, and things to keep in mind during the repair process.
