Stony Brook, NY— Staller Center at Stony Brook University presents Dance Brazil, an ensemble of ten athletic dancers who enthrall audiences with their unique fusion of Afro-Brazilian music, contemporary dance and capoeira. Capoeira, a uniquely Brazilian form combining martial arts and dance, inspires their moves. Artistic director and choreographer Jelon Vieira premieres his piece Fe do Sertao, dedicated to a Brazilian folksinger. Also on the program is Banguela, a mesmerizing capoeira dance from 2010.
Dance Brazil’s high-powered fusion of Afro-Brazilian movement and modern dance brings energy and grace to the Staller Center stage. One of artistic director Jelon Vieira’s works, “Dance Like a Fight – Fight Like A Dance,” crystallizes their style in a title.
Enjoy the ensemble’s dazzling artistry inspired by the cultural tapestry of Brazil.
