Smithtown, NY— National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service. Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week focuses national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic leadership. The week offers organizational leadership the opportunity to say thank you to those who give back the invaluable service of time.
The medical center hosted an appreciation event for its volunteers in honor of National Volunteer Week. Hospital administration and staff attended to thank the volunteers for their dedication and for making the patient experience easier.
The Director of Volunteers Heather Reynolds expressed her gratitude to the volunteers, “Thank you for all your hard work, time and talent, all of us here at St. Catherine of Siena truly appreciate your efforts and support”.
Students of the hospital’s Healthcare Career Exploration and Internship Program, which offers high school students the opportunity to earn credits while gaining hands-on healthcare experience, also thanked the volunteers by crafting beautiful banners which displayed the powerful message—“Coming together in unity to help the community”. Additionally, Nicole Heller of Cake Chaos by Nicole donated 100 beautifully decorated cupcakes for the event. For added spring-inspired décor, special napkins were crafted into spring flowers by the residents of the nursing and rehabilitation care center, unit 2B.
The volunteers at St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center are dedicated individuals of all ages, who give of their time throughout the hospital and nursing and rehabilitation care center. If you are interested in volunteering or for more information, please contact the Director of Volunteers, Heather Reynolds, at (631) 862-3959.
