Smithtown, New York—It is summer time and eating healthy food is crucial to having enough energy to withstand the heat. St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center and Island Harvest has joined forces to help educate the community about healthy food choices for the summer.
On Saturday, July 20th, St. Catherine of Siena will host a Summer Healthy Food Fair, from 10:00 am to noon, at 50 Route 25A, Smithtown, New York. The free community event is sponsored by St. Catherine’s Auxiliary and will take place rain or shine.
Attendees will learn all about eating healthy with live cooking demonstrations from Island Harvest representatives. In an effort to fulfill the goal of providing one billion pounds of fresh produce to the community, Island Harvest will be distributing free bags of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, while supplies last. In addition, a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) representative will also be on-site to assist with applications for eligible, low-income individuals and families.
The medical center will provide free health screenings and activities for children throughout the fair, along with tours of the hospital’s many renovated units.
