Sound Shore Medical Center (SSMC) is pleased to announce that its new program for individuals choosing hip and knee replacement surgery has earned the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission as a certified center of excellence. This achievement makes SSMC one of only 307 hospitals nationally to merit certification in both hip and knee joint replacements. More importantly Sound Shore Medical Center is one of only 12 in New York State and the first and only hospital in Westchester County to earn this dual distinction.
Certification by The Joint Commission demonstrates Sound Shore Medical Center’s compliance with national standards for healthcare quality and safety in hip and knee replacements. This was accomplished through a rigorous on-site review regarding standards of care specific to the needs of patients and their families. The Program’s in-house patient satisfaction scores consistently record 95% and above and speak to the patients’ perception of SSMC’s exceptional care.
“Seeking Joint Commission certification in hip and knee replacements demonstrates our commitment to the highest level of care for our patients. And achieving this Gold Standard of Care acknowledges the quality of this vital Program,” said John R. Spicer, President and CEO of Sound Shore Medical Center.
