First Fridays Series
June 1: “Shifting Reality Across Long Island”
Presented by East End Arts
(RIVERHEAD, NY, May 18, 2012) –– East End Arts is pleased to announce June’s installment of the First Fridays Arts-in-Community Series to be held on Friday, June 1 at 6PM at the East End Arts’ Carriage House, located behind the East End Arts’ Gallery, 133 East Main Street, Riverhead NY. The Long Island Creative Vortex will be presenting a unique experience, ”Shifting Reality Across Long Island.” Artists, musicians, art lovers, and community members are invited to take part in the Long Island Creative Vortex’s traveling, participatory art exhibit, “Shifting Reality Across Long Island,” which will be in its finale installment. This project is based on working collaboratively on and around a piece of artwork literally titled 'Reality’. Artists – really anyone and everyone! – will come together in the spirit of collaboration and creativity and change ‘Reality’ by painting it, to leave their mark on this piece of artwork that is constantly shifting and evolving. The band “The Evening News”, a musical experiment of improvisation, will be performing at the event. This free event is open to the public. For more information about the “Shifting Reality Across Long Island”, visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/Long-Island-Creative-Vortex-Live/339193262758273.
The “Shifting Reality” project is designed to pull artists and local musicians together in a collective, based on a centralized theme. The hope is that the ‘whole’ will promote growth, support, and in the end, help in gaining exposure for all Long Island artists.
Local artist and musician Eric Hurnyak, one of the leads in the Long Island Creative Vortex collective, and creator of the “Shifting Reality Across Long Island” project is thrilled about presenting the piece at East End Arts’ First Friday event: “The artists of Long Island Creative Vortex are excited to present the final ‘Reality’ at East End Arts on First Friday – this has been an amazing experience.”
“Shifting Reality Across Long Island” will also be featured at East End Arts’ 16th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival on Sunday, May 27, held from 12PM to 5PM on the grounds of East End Arts in Downtown Riverhead.
East End Arts is very pleased to present this series of Arts-in-Community forums and presentations on the first Friday of the month in Riverhead, and the third Thursday of the month in Greenport, to encourage discussion and engage the local community with the arts. These free events are open to the public. For more information about the First Fridays and Third Thursdays series’, visit http://www.eastendarts.org/events/index.html#FirstFri or call 631-369-2171.
