According to News 12 Long Island, two Long Island school districts have ramped up their security. This is in response to the Newtown, CT elementary school shooting that left 26 dead, with the majority of them being children.
An advanced school security system is one of the things that Plainedge School District has been taking very seriously, and others are looking to this district and their technology choice for help in increasing their own security.
Intralogic Solutions designed the system that Plainedge uses and it features a district command center that monitors every part of the system, including access cards that all students and staff have to use to get into the high school. In addition, the superintendent can lock a school down with just a push of a button. If a door is propped open for more than five minutes, a “door ajar notification” is sent to the district and school for them to determine if there is an issue.
Another school in the forefront of school security is the West Babylon School District. The high school has 72 cameras all by itself, which means that nearly every move made in the school is recorded. In addition, it features an electronic map of the floor plan, which makes it quicker for administrators to locate the trouble spots.
Intralogic Solutions points out that any Long Island school can get a grant to put in new security systems. In addition, they offer free security assessments for schools.
