Some of the youth that the public on Long Island and the rest of the country may have forgotten have been going to school at Harriett Eisman Community School. It is one of the few places giving these youth a chance to turn their lives around and make something out of their life.
Even with all of the good that the school has been able to do for students in Long Beach and surrounding areas, it may be closing its doors. This is because the school just lost $300,000 in funding from the state and county. This means that the school that has been in operation since 1972 will have to close its doors for good.
This brings up the interesting question of what the future will hold for those students that would not be able to finish their education without this kind of school to help out. A total of 45 students awaiting to start next year at the school are left waiting to find out what will happen to the school so that they will be able to see if they will be able to get the education that they need.
Many are angry that such a measure would be taken without having any kind of plan in place for what will become of the students in need of the school. So far, the government is not telling anybody about any expectations to keep the school open or to open a new school so the students can go to school.
