Sandra Bernhard is known by many names that are not very nice, but she is so much nicer and kinder than some might expect when she is not on stage. When she is on the stage, she is so sharp that she cuts like a knife, but she says that she has actually “mellowed” from her early days.
Long Islanders will get to enjoy her sharp wit on Saturday, April 13th at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. If you missed her run at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan during the winter, you will want to put this date on your calendar for a very fun night.
She told the Long Island Press recently that, “You kind of get a little more sophisticated as the years go by. You do things differently. I’m certainly not going to talk about…dating!”
Her act, “I Love Being Me, Don’t You”, has a little bit of everything, including the Flawless Zircons, her band. She will tell stories and sing songs that are from all different facets of entertainment.
“I like new things and I like old things,” she says. “I like smart people and I like people who have trail-blazed and taken chances. Those are all my influences! And I try to bring that all together in a really compelling, entertaining night that people will walk away from going, ‘Wow! She took me someplace! She didn’t leave me in the lurch.’ That’s really what I attempt to do every time I step on stage.”
