This Sunday, December 8th, the Salzburg Marionette Theater will be performing at the Stony Brook University’s Staller Center for the Arts. This is a rare opportunity to see the marionette performers, who rarely journey to American on tour. They have not been to the United States more than twice each decade since the 1960s, and are currently celebrating their 100th year anniversary.
Their performance of “The Sound of Music” will be presented in partnership with WALK-FM 97.5. While “The Sound of Music” is not a holiday show, Staller Center Director Alan Inkles believes it evokes the holiday spirit, particularly as a positive, family-oriented show. The performance is part of the “Not Just For Kids” series at the center, but organizers emphasize that many children will enjoy the show as well. The story is one that many audience members will recognize from the original Broadway performance by Rodgers and Hammerstein as well as the Academy Award winning musical film starring Julie Andrews. The show will take place at 7 pm. Tickets cost $34 for adults and $17 for children under the age of 12. You may visit the Staller Center’s website or call 632-2728 for more information on the performance.
