East End Arts Awarded $2,500 from Riverhead Toyota

Toyota to Provide a Matching Grant of $2,500 for a Total of $5,000

Funds to benefit the 10th Annual Teeny Awards

(RIVERHEAD, NY, March 9, 2012) –– East End Arts announced it received a $2,500 donation from Riverhead Toyota, and an additional contribution of $2,500 from Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

“East End Arts is honored to receive a $5,000 donation from Toyota,” said Patricia Snyder, Executive Director of East End Arts. “This generous grant will support the Teeny Awards, our high school theatre recognition program, this year celebrating 10 years.”

One of the original founding capital investors of the Teeny Awards is back to celebrate and support the 10-year anniversary: Riverhead Toyota owner Ted Lucki. Riverhead Toyota and the Toyota Foundation have made generous contributions totaling $5,000 to support the high school theater recognition program. Why does Toyota choose to support the Teeny Awards? “I am really pleased that this program has grown and developed over the last 10 years, and I am very proud to be a part of it,” says Riverhead Toyota owner Ted Lucki, one of the original capital investors in the Teeny Awards. “I’m a big sports fan, and kids involved in theatre should also strive for excellence in plays, just like in sports. We have so many great high school plays produced year after year, and recognition of this work is so important.”

The Teeny Awards, conceived from the idea of the Antoinette Perry Awards – The Tony Awards – for Broadway shows, has been celebrating excellence in high school theater across the East End of Long Island since 2002. The program, developed and run by East End Arts since its inception, recognizes student talent at 15 East End school districts with judging categories such as Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress in three categories of Drama, Comedy, and Musical. Individual awards also go for design categories including Program Art, Set, and Choreography. The coveted “Judges’ Choice” award goes to an exemplary performance or performer not generally represented by the traditional categories. For the 10th Anniversary, a new judging category has been added: “Best Ensemble,” which was developed to stress honoring the teamwork needed in a successful production. The 10th Annual Teeny Awards will be held in late spring at a local high school, soon to be announced.

The Toyota Dealer Match Program enables dealer contributions to make a greater impact on the community. Since 1991, Toyota has contributed more than $500 million to non-profit organizations, and has always been guided by a strong belief in serving the communities where it does business.
