Riverhead, New York, August 6, 2013. The Board of Trustees of the Railroad Museum of Long Island (RMLI) is pleased to announce our thirteenth annual Riverhead Railroad Festival. It will be held on the Museum grounds at 416 Griffing Avenue, Riverhead, NY across from Riverhead’s LIRR Station from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 27 th and Sunday, August 28 th.
Things to see and do at the Riverhead Railroad Festival.
• Speeders
• See many operating toy train layouts in “G,” “O,” “HO,” and “N” scale
• Ride the 1964 ~ 1965 LIRR Pavilion World’s Fair Train
• Historic railcars, LIRR M-1 cars and historic Steam and Diesel locomotives
• Cabooses
• GP-38 Simulator
• Railroad related vendors
• Experience the Museum Exhibit Bus of the Suffolk County Historical Society.
• View working machines of the “Long Island Antique Power Association”
• Visit the Museum Gift Shop
• Visit railroad preservation groups
• Refreshments available from “Maple Tree Gourmet Caterers”
• Ride the LIRR Greenport “Scoot” at 11:20 AM, visit the RMLI Museum in Greenport, then return to Riverhead at 2:00 PM
• Test your skill in the METCA Locomotive Races
RMLI Doors are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission: Adults (13+) $8.00; Children 5 - 12 years old;
$5.00; and children under five years old are FREE. LIRR “Scoot” tickets are purchased separately onboard the train from the LIRR Conductor (There is no surcharge for purchasing tickets onboard at Riverhead or Greenport). Admission to the Riverhead Railroad Festival allows you to see both RMLI sites on the same day of purchase.
