(RIVERHEAD, NY, November 21, 2012) –– East End Arts invites the public to cast their vote for favorite holiday window display starting Sunday, December 2 for the Downtown Riverhead Holiday Window Decorating Contest. A $500 cash prize, donated by the Riverhead Town Board, will be awarded to the winning window display. This annual holiday tradition brings life and cheer to Downtown Riverhead’s otherwise empty storefronts, which will be filled with festive scenes and images to celebrate the holiday season. Votes can be cast at the East End Arts Gallery from Tuesdays through Sundays during Holiday Marketplace hours (Tuesday-Friday: 10AM-6PM, Saturday: 10AM-4PM, Sunday: 12PM-4PM,) and the voting will run through Thursday, December 20. The winner will be announced in late December. Ballots may be picked up at the East End Arts Gallery, located at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead. For more information, visit www.eastendarts.org.
Last year over fifteen local groups, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Elves, McGann-Mercy High School, and River & Roots CommunityGarden, and businesses including The Red Collection, participated, creating anything from painted holiday window art to festive three-dimensional window displays, and everything in between. This year, there will be eleven vacant storefront windows available to decorate, and groups can apply to participate. Windows are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Applications can be found at http://eastendarts.org/TEMPfiles2012/2012WindowDecoratingApp.pdf and must be submitted by Monday, November 26, 2012.
