The Riverhead Chamber of Commerce announces the Board of Directors and Executive Board for 2013.
Members of the Chamber of Commerce gathered for the Annual Membership Meeting and State of the Chamber Address at the Stony Brook Incubator in Calverton on January 31st . During the luncheon meeting, members of the Chamber enjoyed a university boxed lunch, tour of the new Consumer Science Center and met with some of the new, inspiring entrepreneurs being bred right here in Riverhead.
The annual meeting was officiated by Carmela Di Talia as members of the Board of Directors were voted in for three-year terms. Returning members of the board are Monique Gablenz, Stony Brook University Calverton Business Incubator; Thomas Lennon, Pine Barrens Printing; Pat Snyder, East End Arts; and Tracy Stark-James, Riverhead Industrial Development Agency. New to the Board of Directors, the membership voted in Megan Mathesen of the Hilton Garden Inn. Comprising the remainder of the Board are members continuing out their terms: Evon Walters, Suffolk County Community College; Robert Bugdin, American Tent Company; Robert Lanieri, Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center; Deborah Schmitt, Schmitt Farms on Sound; Clete Galasso, Lighthouse Marine Supply and Brian Curtin, Great Rock Golf Club.
The Chamber Board of Directors then elected its 2013 Executive Board. Tracy Stark-James was selected to preside as the new President of the Board of Directors. She replaces Janine Nebons of Tanger Outlet Center who will now remain on the Executive Board as Immediate Past President. Robert Kern of 2XS Consulting was selected to rep/ace 1VI0nique Gablenz as First Vice-President. Monique will also remain on the Executive Board as Director at Large. Kristen Reyes of Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo will take over duties as the Treasurer, formerly held by Tracy Stark-James. Continuing their terms on the Executive Board are, Angie Reese of Suffolk County National Bank as Second Vice President and Carmela Di Talia of Esseks, Hefter & Angel LLP as Secretary.
During the annual meeting, the Chambers Executive Director, Mary Hughes conducted the State of the Chamber Address outlining the goals of the Chamber of Commerce for the coming year.
"I want to thank Janine Nebons and Monique Gablenz for really advancing the Chamber last year on many levels," said Tracy Stark James. Ms. James continued, liThe Chamber is blessed with a really motivated group of people on our Board of Directors and flanked by Mary Hughes our Executive Director, the Chamber is being catapulted into the 21st century."
Thinking about the focus of the upcoming year, Ms. James indicated that the board is going to focus on quality of life issues that impact doing business in Riverhead and the entire community. liThe Chamber will continue to be a strong advocate and voice for business and that includes fostering a quality of life that is attractive for business development and the community as a whole." As Mary stated in the State of the Chamber, we are going to continue our efforts toward encouraging cross promotions and cross marketing on the East End and work toward increasing resources and services for local businesses, the Riverhead Community and beyond."
