Red Cross Responds to Tragic House Explosion in Brentwood, Long Island
MINEOLA, NY, Aug. 14, 2012 — American Red Cross volunteers are on the scene of a deadly house explosion on Prospect Avenue in Brentwood. The house was leveled shortly after noon today and neighboring homes have been damaged.
Tragically, an 18-month-old baby died in the explosion; a number of people were also hospitalized.
"Our hearts go out to the family and all who have been impacted by this devastating incident," said John Miller, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross on Long Island. "As always, we stand ready to provide comfort and relief to those affected."
Red Cross disaster mental health personnel are at the scene of the explosion, assisting residents. A Red Cross emergency response vehicle is also on scene, providing water and snacks to affected residents and first responders.
The Red Cross stands ready to provide emergency housing for those displaced by this explosion.
