Announcing the Expansion of Outpatient Care
Douglas K. Hoverkamp, MD today announced the expansion of his outpatient psychiatry practice and the arrival of new associate, Letty Smith, MD. Located at the Medical Village in Greenport, these physicians are one of the few psychiatry practice providers east of Riverhead.
“The goal of the practice is to encourage patients to resume a daily routine and help them assimilate back into the community. Many times, we can guide patients through treatment and improve debilitating symptoms by adjusting medications or introducing new ones,” states Hoverkamp. “If patients need to be admitted, Eastern Long Island Hospital is close by, providing a healing and therapeutic environment,” he adds.
“We are very pleased that Dr. Hoverkamp is offering outpatient psychiatric counseling to the residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island,” states Paul J. Connor, III, President and Chief Executive Officer, ELIH. “Often, people postpone getting the care they need because of the stigma associated with mental illness. As with all illnesses, the earlier a problem is diagnosed and treated, the better the outcome.”
Dr. Hoverkamp is board certified and holds a Medical Degree from St. George’s University. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Virginia Health System. Additionally, he completed an adult psychiatric residency and a fellowship in child-adolescent psychiatry at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Smith holds a Medical Degree from the American University of the Caribbean. Smith completed her internship and residency at SUNY Stony Brook Medical Center before joining the medical staff at ELIH.
