PSEG Long Island, the power company that took over for LIPA on January 1st, has already been praised for their quick turnaround time in bringing power back to customers after recent outages during Winter Storm Hercules. Now they have announced that they will be trimming trees throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to improve service.
PSEG will be removing branches from trees that might fall on power lines and cause outages during storms. With these branches out of the way, outages will be less likely during times of high winds and harsh weather. The power company will be using techniques that protect the health of the trees, and also help to redirect their growth. That way they will not be likely to compromise power lines in the future. The techniques meet standards which have been set by the International Society of Arboriculture and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 300 Standards for Tree Care Operations. If PSEG will be working along your street, you will receive a notice in advance. This is just one of many operations the new power company is undertaking to ensure that customers do not experience a repeat of the terrible service provided by LIPA.
