Nasasu County Executive Edward P. Manago has just announced that his ProAct Prescription program, founded in May of 2012, has helped residents in Nassau to save over $1.5 million on their prescription medications to date. The purpose of the ProAct Prescription program is to help discount medications to Nassau residents who have limited or no coverage on prescription medications through their insurance carriers. The program is open to anyone who resides in Nassau, no matter the income level. The only limitation is that the program card cannot be used in conjunction with an insurance plan which already provides a significant medication discount. The card can be used for both generic and brand name drugs at pharmacies, and even for some pet medications.
With the help of this program, Nassau county residents are able to save around 10-20% of the cost of brand name medications. Savings on generic medications are even higher, ranging from 20-70%. “By working closely with ProAct, Nassau County has provided their residents, regardless of age, income or existing health care coverage, access to affordable prescriptions,” summarized Mangano, discussing the program benefits during his press release. There is no fee to apply or enroll in the ProAct program.
